2 month old baby drinking less milk

Hi, my baby is currently at 9 weeks old and the total daily milk intake has been reduced quite a lot since 3 weeks ago. The baby was drinking 650ml - 700ml and currently that has brought down to 450ml - 500ml (Baby can rarely hit 500ml a day). Baby can only drink 60ml - 90ml at a time. At 2 month check up, PD told me that it’s hunger strike and is not concerning since the baby is growing and no sign of health issue as well. PD also advised me to dream feed the baby if I want to increase the daily milk intake to meet the minimum daily intake (weight is 5kg) but the baby does not drink when sleeping. When I tried to feed more often, baby refuses the bottle and cry very hard. I feed 6 - 7 times now on baby’s demand. I have tried three different brand’s bottle, tried bigger teats, and three different formula milk but the situation still remains the same. Is this normal and will the intake increase eventually? Did you do anything special to increase the milk intake? It would be great to hear your thoughts. Thank you!

The doctor is right. It’s milk strike. My girl has it too when she’s about 2-3 mo old. So the pd says to go along with the cues, don’t force feed or else it’s very traumatic for the baby and all the more don’t wanna drink it. You can switch to a bigger teat or a brand of bottle (she was drinking Pigeon and it’s too slow for her, I switch to avent and she like the flow - fyi: I give newborn avent teat too). Adults don’t eat the same amount of food everyday, so it goes the same for baby. When they are hungry, they will ask for it. Just follow cues. For mine, my girl is not a big drinker. the intake didn’t increase eventually but she’s at a 50% for weight so I’m happy already.

I feel very relieved to hear that! I was worried about my baby’s milk intake since it is way lesser than the minimum amount. I will continue to feed on demand and monitor her weight. I hope that the baby will continue to grow well. Thank you for your answer.

Super Mum

Babies can enter a nursing strike for a variety of reasons that are both physical and emotional.  Is your baby on BM or formula? Have you tried cup feeding? you can get it here https://shopee.sg/product/265382348/3336013688?smtt=0.244843059-1641702769.9 hope this helps.
