Tahini is made of crushed sesame seeds, and while it is high in nutrition, it has been linked to outbreaks of salmonella and listeria. Better to avoid, mums-to-be. Safety first!

Postpartum

It is better to avoid tahini during the postpartum period when you are recovering and you may still be low in immunity and prone to infections. This is because tahini has been linked to food poisoning outbreaks.

Breastfeeding

Tahini is often added to hummus and this makes for a delicious, healthy snack or dip while breastfeeding. While it is safe for you to eat while breastfeeding, be aware of that tahini has been linked to cases of food poisoning so do consume with caution.

Avoid giving your child food with tahini in it as this ingredient has been linked to salmonella and listeria outbreaks.
