Pregnancy

Fresh olives contain acids that help reduce cholesterol levels in a pregnant woman's bloodstream and may protect the baby from developing allergies. However, mothers are advised to avoid marinated black olives because they contain nitrite that can damage cells.

Postpartum

You can eat olives after childbirth. Fresh olives are nutrient-rich, and good for postpartum recovery, except for marinated black olives which contain nitrite that can be damaging to your cells.

Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding mums can eat fresh olives. Eating olives can increase calcuim content in your breast milk. Avoid eating marinated black olives because they may contain cell-damaging nitrite.

Baby

Olives are not suitable for babies under the age of 11 months.
