It is best to avoid Hyacinth beans during pregnancy, as it might cause harm by disrupting the lining of the uterus. It might also have antifungal and insecticidal activity. There is anecdotal evidence that hyacinth beans may have contraceptive effects. It might be the effect of cyanogenic glycosides, a poisonous ingredient in uncooked beans.
Hyacinth beans are unsafe when eaten raw and in large amounts. Raw hyacinth beans contain certain chemicals, called cyanogenic glycosides, which can be poisonous if not properly cooked. Best to avoid!
Not enough is known about the use of hyacinth bean during breastfeeding, but as it is unsafe for pregnant women, it may pose serious risks for breastfeeding mums, too. Stay on the safe side and avoid consumption.
Hyacinth beans are not suitable for babies under the age of 11 months.
