Emus are ostrich-like birds endemic to Australia. One emu egg is equivalent to 8-12 chicken eggs, and certainly cannot be eaten in one setting. An emu egg contains all the nutritional elements of chicken eggs. And these components such as protein and folate are good for your health as well as baby's development. However, due to it's extra-large size, there is a risk of undercooking emu eggs, which is why you should consume with caution, and only if cooked well.
During the postpartum period, nutrients like protein and iron can certainly help you recover faster - and emu eggs have more than enough of these. What you need to avoid is undercooked egg due to the risk of bacterial contamination. So proceed with caution, making sure the emu egg is well cooked. Also remember that one emu egg is equivalent to about a dozen regular eggs.
Go ahead an eat emu eggs if you must while breastfeeding. They contain large quantities of protein, folate, selenium and other essential nutrients (just like regular eggs). Just be cautious about undercooked emu egg (the massive volume of white and yolk means it is easy to do this) as there could be a risk of bacterial contamination.
It's best to avoid giving your little one emu egg until he or she is much older. The large volume of egg means there is a risk of undercooking it, which could potentially lead to food poisoning.
