Pregnancy

It's best for pregnant women to avoid Chinese cinnamon. It may trigger rashes and severe allergic reactions in some, and lowers blood glucose levels. Cinnamon also stimulates menstrual flow, and large amounts can trigger a miscarriage.

Postpartum

It's fine to consume small amounts of Chinese cinnamon in the postpartum period. It lowers blood glucose levels. However, it may prevent blood clotting, therefore hampering your recovery from surgery during childbirth.

Breastfeeding

Cinnamon is okay for breastfeeding mummies to consume. It has beneficial antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. If you have low blood sugar, only consume in small quantities as cinnamon is a natural blood sugar regulator.

Baby

A sprinkle of cinnamon over fruit purees or porridge is fine for babies 6 months and older. Do note however, that giving your baby a large amount of cinnamon can cause skin irritation, upset stomach, or rarely, an allergic reaction.
