How to discipline a kid that is not like the young you.

How could you possibly discipline your kid that's a lot different from who you were when you were little? Havingno idea at all is a struggle most especially for first time parents making them rely so much on their parents'strategies and recommendation from other moms/dads. While it can be helpful, it is also best to work with yourpartner instead. Kids can be difficult most especially on their toddler years. You will find yourself loosing control and too tired tomake a conversation. It is challenging to have no reference on how to act and talk around them. And even if youdo, sometimes it just won't apply for various reasons. My husband and I committed to these 3 parenting rules: 1. Never disagree with your spouse in front of the kidsmost especially when trying to discipline them. We don't want the other one to look bad. Talk about what to tellthe kids before you deal with them 2. Be consistent - a "No" is a "No". Orient everyone in the house about yourrules and everyone must comply. This goes to the grandparents too especially when the kids are on vacation withthem. Same rules must apply and they must be able to implement them 3. When your kid throws a tantrum, lethim. Allow him to express his emotions freely but making sure he's in a safe environment - there's nothing to hurthim and there's no people that will say bad things about him or judge his emotions. He will calm down eventuallyrealizing he's not getting anything from it. And when he stops, you must be there to comfort him, explain things, help him validate his feelings and suggest a better approach.Remember, it's different for every family. It's a trial and error. You just need to find the best strategy that works foryou and your child. You understand your kid better than anyone else.
