Because of the pressure exerted during delivery, most babies have cone like shape heads. As Jamie mentioned, encouraging your baby to lie on his side during sleep and rotating to the other side occassionally. Try not to let baby lie on his back for long period of time to prevent flat head syndrome. There are pillows that claims to prevent flat head syndromes (My son uses babysafe pillo) which have a dimple in the middle of it. So far, my son doesn't have any flat head and he sleeps mostly on his back when he was younger. Nowadays he just flips everywhere! Take precaution though: it is not advisable for newborns to be sleeping on a pillow in case of SIDS. My son co-sleeps with me, plus I am a light sleeper so I guess it's fine for me.
