Could baby hurt his own soft spot? Shld i wear back his mittens

Hello mummies. Recently i stop letting my baby wear mittens. But he kept scratching his head when he is frustrated or sleepy until white flakes appear all over his head. I always noticed red patches around his soft spot area from all rubbing and scratching. Does ur baby does this? Is it possible that he might hurt his own soft spot? Should i let him wear back his mittens? Some advise not to let baby wear mittens for too long as they need to explore
