How should I prepare for my first scan? What does it mean medically?

You will be asked to have a full bladder as this makes abdominal ultrasound images clearer. If the doctor or sonographer decides to do a vaginal scan, you will then be asked to empty your bladder. A scan usually takes around 20 to 30 minutes. You should wear a two-piece outfit so we can access your abdomen without you removing your clothing. You may eat normally prior to having a fetal ultrasound.
