Babies cry for milk

Hi mummies, I am abit confused with how is baby cry for milk sounds like at night while they are sleeping. My LO eversince he was born he doesnt really cry with tears for milk at night all he does was eh eh eh now he is in his 3 months, and he sleeps on his tummy (i know its dangerous but it was his preferred position) and all these while he will eh eh I picked him up and DL him but he will suck for 10 min and doze off not waking up although I rub his ears if change diapers he will suck 20min with eyes close. is he really drinking milk or this is called dream feeding?
