Important ultrasound milestones include dating scan during the 1st trimester, fetal abnormality scan at 20 weeks to look for organ defects, and the growth scan during the 3rd trimester. Multiple ultrasound examinations during pregnancy is unlikely to cause any lasting harm to the developing fetus, according to a new study that confirms the long-term safety of the commonly used procedure.
