Baby carrier hip seat

Is it advisable to avoid hip seat baby carriers? Why? Did i just waste my money.....? I intend to use my bebear with detachable hip seat when LO turns 6mo. When is the best time (baby's age) to use hip seat?

I used hip seat carrier when my daughter was 9+ months old because she was already starting walk and have that annoying tendency of sometimes want to be carried, sometimes want to walk. It is easier to carry and put her down.
