Pregnancy

Pregnant women are advised to avoid alcohol. Wine or any alcohol puts the baby's health at risk. Drinking alcohol while pregnant may lead to miscarriages, premature birth, and health complications in the fetus.

Postpartum

New mums should avoid drinking wine when recovering from childbirth. After delivery, priority should be getting proper nutrition for optimum recovery. If you are not breastfeeding, you can consult your OB GYN when it's safe to drink alcohol again.

Breastfeeding

Alcohol can make you weaker, and can contaminate your breast milk, potentially harming your baby. If you do have the occasional drink, limit it to a maximum of 4 oz of wine per day. Do not breastfeed until at least two hours after you finish your drink. You can also express your breast milk and feed your baby through a bottle to avoid contaminating your milk.

Baby

Babies should never be given alcoholic beverages, which can damage their health and even cause mental retardation.
