Pregnancy

Kombucha is a popular trend these days thanks to its many benefits; being a probiotic good for gut health is one of them. However, there have not yet been any large-scale studies on the effects of drinking kombucha whilst pregnant. For now it is be best to avoid kombucha during pregnancy because of its alcohol content, caffeine content and lack of pasteurization.

Postpartum

New mums may want to avoid kombucha until they are past their recovery stage. This is because kombucha especially if it is brewed at home carries the risk of being contaminated.

Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding mums should avoid kombucha for the same reasons as expectant mums. It contains alcohol and caffeine; traces of which may end up in your breastmilk. Its lack of pasteurization also poses a health hazard. For now, its risks outweigh its benefits.

Baby

Please do not give your young baby kombucha to try. It contains alcohol, coffee and is non pasteurized which are all health hazards to your baby.
