Pregnancy

Garam masala is a mix of ground spices such as cumin, coriander, pepper, cinammon and cloves, and is used mostly in Indian cuisine. It is safe for pregnant women to consume in moderate quantities, when cooked in curries.

Postpartum

With its delicious, spicy flavour, garam masala is perfectly okay to consume when added to curries in normal quantities, during the postpartum period.

Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding mums can consume garam masala in curries without any problem at all.

Baby

If you are okay with the idea of introducing small quantities of spices to your little one when he or she starts solids at around six months of age, by all means go ahead and add a pinch of garam masala in a mild curry, like one made with sweet potatoes or pumpkin. Just a pinch will do though, as baby will be sensitive to strong and new tastes and flavours.
