Ask the Expert Series: Try to Conceive through Traditional Chinese Medicine

Hello Everyone! Excited to “see” you! I am Physician Jolene Chong, TCM Physician and Advisor, Market Development at Eu Yan Sang TCM Premier Clinic, Paragon Medical Suites. Together with the team at TAP, we would love to help as many of you as we can on your conceiving journey. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been experiencing a growing acceptance to complement Western medicine in treating common fertility conditions in today's society. We are able to devise the ideal personalized combination of treatments (such as consumption of Chinese herbal prescriptions, acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping etc) to target any issue faced by a patient after understanding your body constitution. While treating each patient, TCM also addresses the overall well-being of the patient and aims to improve his/her holistic health. #advicepls #pleasehelp #improvefertility #infertility #sub-fertility #traditionalchinesemedicine #tcm #herbs #acupuncture #cupping #moxibustion #euyansang #euyansangtcmpremiercenter #paragonmedical ------------------ 👩-what nourishment can I eat from TCM ? can I eat bird nest and chicken essence? which trimester can I start eating 👩‍⚕️ Bird Nest and Chicken Essence are fine for consumption by pregnant ladies, and they can be consumed throughout your pregnancy. Other nourishing herbs which you can consider taking would be 党参、茯苓、山药、玉竹 etc for the improvement of your digestive system; 莲子、百合 for the improvement of your respiratory system and calming of mind and spirit. Hope this clarifies your doubt! :) 👩 Any food to avoid while taking TCM? 👩‍⚕️ I would advise my patients to avoid Radish (which may reduce the effectiveness of my prescription) and Grapefruit (which may heightened the effects of my prescription to undesirable levels). It is also essential to note to have an interval of 2 hours with any other Western medications and/or supplements which you are taking. Hope this clarifies your doubts! :) Here are some questions asked in our community, and we got the answers for you ✅

I went for fertility test and my doctor said I have pcos. It was based on me having irregular periods and borderline failed glucose test. Since I was very underweight and not eating unhealthily, losing weight and eating more healthy couldn't apply to me so my doctor just prescribed metformin, and myoinositol and letrozole. But for some reason it didnt work. Rather, I was feeling sick from all the medications. In the end it was really expensive, so I decided to stop with this doctor and go public route instead. So I was referred from polyclinic to KKH and did more tests (like androgen test, hyfosy test etc) and the doctor there instead told me they would not consider me as PCOS, so he did not prescribe metformin nor inositol (which was quite a relief for me), but since my period is irregular, he just gave me letrozole for me to time my ovulation. He prescribed a higher dose of letrazole (also did a test to see if the dosage is sufficient) for me compared to the previous doctor. At first after 3 months I thought all hope is lost, but doctor say many healthy couples below 35 may even take up to a year to get pregnant. I am near 35 already, so it's not weird that its more difficult. So I tried another 3 months and I really got pregnant! Weird thing is, I've been trying for 5 months and on the 6 month, where I decided to give up for that month because I caught covid previous month and feeling down, me and my husband just casually had intercourse (without really checking the timing) and it was successful! I have a feeling stress may have played a big part to successful conception. Also, if one doctor doesn't work, it doesn't hurt to try another! There is also the IUI or IVF route in the event nothing works. There is government funding for both of these! Was thinking of trying IUI if it doesn't work once I reach 35.
