Ingredients

  • 1 chicken chopped into bite sized pieces
  • 1 thumb ginger sliced
  • 1/2 cup sesame oil
  • 2 tbsps light soy sauce
  • 2 tbsps dark soy sauce
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/4 tsp white pepper grounded
  • 3 tbsps light soy sauce to marinate the chicken
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil to marinate the chicken
  • 1/4 tsp white pepper to marinate the chicken

Steps

  1. Start by marinating the chicken. You can omit this step if you don't have the time. However, marinating enhances the flavour.
  2. In a heated wok, add sesame oil. Once the oil was hot, add the ginger. The oil will start bubbling. Fry the ginger for about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Add the chicken all at once. Stir to combine and added the soy sauces and the pepper.
  4. Add the water. You can either place everything into a slow cooker and cook on AUTO for about 4-6 hours, or continue cooking in the wok (stirring occasionally) with a lid on for about 15-20 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through, and the sauce has thickened.
  5. Serve immediately with rice.
  6. Note: If you do not marinate the chicken, then add the marinating ingredients to the sauce.
