Nurungji (Scorched Rice)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups white short-grain rice
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • Sugar (for dipping)

Steps

  1. Wash two cups of Okome short-grain rice with cold water multiple times.
  2. Cook the rice in a rice cooker.
  3. Once cooked, air the rice for 10 minutes.
  4. Brush some sesame oil on a non-stick frying pan.
  5. Cover the base of the pan with a thin layer of rice and cook over medium heat.
  6. Flip the nurungji after 15 minutes.
  7. Sprinkle sugar on the nurungji.
  8. Once the nurungji starts to get scorched on both sides, take it off the pan and let it cool.
  9. (Optional) You can dip the nurungji in raw sugar for more flavour.
