Symphysis pubis dysfunction (SPD) is the temporary separation of the front part of the pubic bone as a result of child birth, which can cause pain in your lower abs just above the pubic area after delivery as the ligament becomes lax. Often times, there is no specific surgery that is needed. Painkillers and physiotherapy will help. Most of the time, mothers recover naturally.
