remedies for cough

My 3 year plus old daughter has been coughing almost 2 weeks. Bring to GP, meds not working. Usually it happens during the nap or sleeping at night. All of a sudden cough until vomit out like phelgm. Can any parents suggest me hoke remedies. I apply vicks too.
