The script subtly approaches the relationships between adults, parent and child, and teenagers with their peers.
That’s because it’s taken all this time for the couple to muster the courage to face Tamara and Bill, and their teenage son Curtis - the bully whom they believe is responsible for the suicide of their own son, Joel.
Redemption, forgiveness and closure are on the menu, but as everyone takes a turn in the hot seat for their real or imagined role in the tragedy, painful accusations are served and shocking secrets are spilled. And all through dinner, the spectre of Joel looms over a night that will change everyone’s lives forever.
This gripping and timely family drama, Late Company by Canadian playwright Jordan Tannahill, examines the devastating consequences of cyber-bullying; it investigates the fragility of family relationships, teenage suicide and the intrusive nature of social media in our current climate of increased connectivity and deeper disconnects.
Here, the urgent question to our society remains: are we too late?
Starring Janice Koh, Edward Choy, Karen Tan, Xander Pang and Adrian Pang. Directed by Tracie Pang.
"Powerful. A gripping, devastating critique of societal and parental hypocrisy in the digital age."
