My brother's baby was born with a full set of hair. Is that normal?
Like what Yuna has mentioned, it is normal for some babies to be born with a full head of hair. Also, like mentioned, the baby's hair will likely fall off. This falling off is due to the lowering of the level of pregnancy hormone previously present in his/her body. After the first “shed”, your baby’s hair will enter a new growth cycle. The hair that grows in this stage will be what your baby’s actual hair will be (and may likely appear different from the type he/she had when he/she was first born). The growth rate differs for every baby. For some, it may take up to two to three years to have a great head of hair.
Read moreIt's pretty normal -- a friend of mine was stunned when her baby come out with a head full of downy hair but the nurse told her that it's lanugo, which is basically hair produced when baby is in the womb to keep him or her warm. While most babies lose this hair before birth, some don't. The nurse told her that the hair is temporary and will slowly fall off, and it did. His "real" hair developed and grew normally and naturally in the next couple of months :)
