Is rocking baby to sleep harmful?

I don't think it's harmful unless of course you're rocking really vigorously as that would increase the risk of the Shaken Baby Syndrome. I think it would only get the child used to the idea of being rock to sleep. In my opinion, rocking a newborn to sleep works pretty effectively because it reminds then of being in your womb and gives them a sense of security and familiarity. However, over time, your child would constantly need to be rock to sleep and as he gets heavier, it would be very hard on you.

While I don't rock my baby to sleep anymore because she hates being carried in the cradle position, I used to rock her gently to sleep when she was a newborn. With babies, everything should be gentle. Gentle rocking is definitely okay. My daughter now lies on her tummy and sucks her thumb to sleep.

Not rocking per se if it’s gentle. But shaking is a no no
