anyone knows any delicious dal recipes without garlic or tomato? i have some relatives from my husband's side coming over, but i always use a lot of tomato and garlic. please share .. thanks a lot.
Hi, There is a this recipe of making urad ki dal in Himachali (himachal pradesh) style. In this, you boil urad ki dal till it becomes tender. When you put it to boil, add lung, badi elachi, salt, hing and salt. When it is done, instead of adding any garlic, tomato, or onion, just take mustard oil in a pan, and when it is heated, put jeera in it with two to three red chillies, then add it to the dal. Boil it for a few minutes so that the oil and masala is mixed in the dal completely.
Read morei recently made a chana dal without tomato and garlic, even though i always use a lot of both in my regular dal and other cooking preparation. i fried onions in ghee and also added some tej patta, heeng and dalcheeni to the same. turmeric and salt to taste and some homemade dhaniya powder. then i added the boiled dal to it and cooked it all. garnished with fresh chopped coriander leaves.
